Seguro que en más de un restaurante japonés habréis probado la cerveza Kirin (キリンビール), una de las cervezas más populares de Japón, junto con la Asahi (アサヒビール), Sapporo (サッポロビール), Suntory (サントリービール) u Orion (オリオンビール).
¿Alguna vez os habéis preguntado de dónde viene el nombre Kirin en japonés? ¿Y a qué viene ese extraño animal de la etiqueta?
El animal de la etiqueta es, precísamente, un Kirin (麒麟), una criatura de la mitología japonesa con cuerpo de dragón lleno de escamas, cola de caballo y cuernos de ciervo. En la jerarquía mitológica de Japón se la considera la criatura más poderosa (más incluso que el dragón).
Actualmente en japonés, la palabra Kirin (麒麟) también significa jirafa. ¿Será porque las jirafas tienen una apariencia sospechosamente muy similar a la de esas extrañas criaturas?
